Joint Multinational Readiness Center

The Joi JMRC Logo nt Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC), the Europe-based Combat Training Center (CTC) with a world-wide mobile training capability, trains leaders, staffs, and units up to Brigade Task Forces and multinational allies and partners, to dominate in the conduct of Multidomain Operations anywhere in the world, now and in the future. The Joint Multinational Readiness Center is situated in the Oberpfalz region of Bavaria near the town of Hohenfels. JMRC provides a myriad of indispensable capabilities to the U.S. Army and our European Allies and partners.

JMRC is the Army’s only forward stationed Combat Training Center. Hohenfels Training Area is 163 km², has 1,345 buildings for training, 319 kilometers of road and numerous cross-country trails, and one short take-off/landing airfield.

JMRC integrates multinational participation into every rotation. JMRC can tailor the exercise and operational environment based on the needs and requirements of the training audience. JMRC supports training for other U.S. agencies and foreign non-military organizations. JMRC regularly employs the U.S. Army’s Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE) and Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRE) concepts, regularly hosting DATE exercises to deploy and test the Regionally Aligned Forces. JMRC also hosts the Kosovo Force (KFOR) Mission Rehearsal Exercise. JMRC provides a realistic, complex operational environment supported by world-class opposing forces (OPFOR) and Observer, Coach, Trainer (OCT) teams. The 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment (1-4 IN) provides world-class opposing forces to train participants across all warfighting functions. Twelve Observer, Coach, Trainer teams provide evaluation and lessons learned for a wide variety of military occupational specialties for each maneuver training rotation. Several support directorates ensure world-class support to our rotations.

Exercise Control Group

The Exercise Control Group (ECG) synchronizes and controls all Joint Multinational Readiness Center rotations and training events in order to support the JMRC and to enable identified training objectives. On order, ECG can deploy a tailorable and scalable ECG package anywhere in the world.

Griffin (Instrumentation)

The Griffin Team provides live, virtual, and constructive training support to prepare units for the challenges of a complex and ever-changing environment. Using a fully integrated instrumentation and engagement system, the Griffin Team also replicates critical complex battlefield effects, collects performance data, and provides instrumented, professional analytical feedback to prepare units for success on current and future battlefields.

Stag (Rotational Plans)

JMRC Rotational Plans, "Stag Team," leads the Joint Exercise Life Cycle which enables JMRC to properly synchronize support to the Primary Training Audience and Secondary Training Audiences for rotational training at Hohenfels Training Area, Germany and to designated locations throughout the EUCOM AOR. The plans team leads planning efforts that:

(1) Sustains readiness of U.S. forces assigned and aligned to EUCOM.
(2) Enables interoperability of NATO Allies and partners.
(3) Increases the combat effectiveness of NATO land forces at the Division echelon and below.
(4) Contribute to the experimentation, modernization, and transformation of the U.S. Army.

Oscar (Civilians on the Battlefield)
The JMRC Oscar Team is responsible providing trained professional role-players for all rotations. Local nationals can augment the permanent staff of role-players during rotations to play civilians on the battlefield, key leaders in town-sets, and dislocated civilians. Use of these personnel maximizes the real-world training that the rotational unit achieves here. The Oscar team also comprises the Tapestry Team, which is responsible for designing the training scenario for the rotational training unit, as well as all Complex Battlefield Injects that the unit will experience during the rotation to ensure training objectives.

Viper (Combat Camera)

The Vipers are the Combat Camera Team supporting JMRC using top-of-the-line digital video and still cameras, and professional quality editing capabilities. Maintaining a staff of highly trained photographers and videographers, the team captures rotational training imagery in support of AARs and to fulfill Combat Camera requirements. The team provides video and still photo documentation in support of the JMRC, to include end of rotations posters and command photos. It supervises and directs multimedia projects and videography assets.

Observer, Coach, Trainer Teams

OCT Teams observe, coach, and train elements from sections through brigade task forces during the planning, preparation, and execution phases of simulated combat operations at JMRC. These teams collect, analyze and provide feedback to rotational units via After Action Reviews and “Take Home Packages.” JMRC has the ability to deploy OCT teams as required to support expeditionary training events.

Mustang (Brigade)

The Mustang Team observes, coaches, and trains U.S. and multinational brigade and division level staffs during CPX and FTXs. It facilitates unit achievement of training objectives, prepares units for future operations, and provides feedback on all staff activities to the unit leadership in the form of After Action Reviews, and develops scenarios for Brigade Task Forces and Kosovo Force mission rehearsal exercises.

Panther (Maneuver)

The Panther Maneuver Team observes, coaches, and trains U.S. and multinational maneuver battalions (Infantry and Armor) in the planning, preparation, execution, and after-action assessment of Multidomain Operations in the European theater.

Panther Team is the JMRC proponent for training the Kosovo Force (KFOR) U.S. maneuver battalion staff and companies throughout their Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRE) in dynamic Crowd and Riot Control exercises and mission-specific scenarios.

The Timberwolf Maneuver (Infantry and Armor Battalion) OCT Team trains U.S. and multinational units, leaders and staffs, up to battalion level, to dominate in the conduct of Multidomain Operations to enable JMRC’s mission. Additionally, the team serves as the proponent for the Infantry School, the Infantry BCT Warfighters’ Forum, and doctrinal reviews for Infantry, Airborne and Air Assault operations.

The Warhog Maneuver OCT Team trains tactical maneuver task force formations to dominate across the spectrum of Multidomain Operations. The Warhog Team is also the proponent for the USAREUR-AF European Best Sniper Team Competition, maintains strategic partnerships with the British Army's Combat Readiness Training Centre Germany and the Combined Arms Staff Trainer, as well as the Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Center.

Wolverine (Special Operations Forces)

The Wolverine Team promotes U.S. and multinational SOF-CF interdependence and interoperability by leveraging the unique capabilities of JMRC and JMSC. Concurrently, the SOF Cell also supports U.S. and multinational SOF unilateral training and has set conditions to build partner SOF capability and capacity in the EUCOM Area of Responsibility. Wolverines are the proponent for the SOCEUR SOFEC JACKAL STONE exercises; supported the Crisis Action Planning segment of European Command's Exercise Austere Challenge, and in conjunction with the Bigfoot USAF team, hosted four DEMON ORBIT A/C-130 virtual Call For Fire events. The Wolverines also hosted and enabled a myriad of SOF unilateral training events spanning the Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels training areas.

Bigfoot (U.S. Air Force)

The mission of the Bigfoot Team is to integrate close air support into JMRC’s scheme of maneuver and to create the most realistic live and virtual close air support training scenarios for our joint, NATO, and coalition partners to win today’s and tomorrow’s wars. Bigfoot Team is focused on maintaining our tactical air control party combat edge and producing the most highly qualified and proficient tactical air control parties for our joint, NATO, and coalition partners.

Sentinel (National Guard & Reserve Component)

The Sentinel Team is the National Guard and Reserve Component Office at JMRC, and support the operational training exercises by augmenting OCT, opposing forces, and blue forces units with National Guard and Reserve Component Soldiers. Sentinels are also responsible for the JMRC Troop Construction Program, which identifies and resources construction projects for U.S. military Engineer units (National Guard, Army Reserve, and Active) to construct in order to improve the JMRC training area capabilities while providing Mission Essential Task List training opportunities to the participating unit.

1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment (Opposing Forces)

In a forward-deployed environment, 1-4 Infantry Regiment conducts combat operations throughout the full spectrum of the contemporary operational environment to provide realistic joint and combined arms training conditions focused on developing Soldiers, leaders and units for success on current and future battlefields throughout U.S. Army Europe. On order, 1-4 IN deploys combat forces to conduct combat operations.
