I Corps kicked off their week-long, annual Best Warrior Competition (BWC) May 14, 2018, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The BWC is held to measure a soldier's technical and tactical abilities while competing in high stress situations. During this period the competitors will be expected to remain mentally tough, tactically proficient and technically skilled in their warrior tasks and drills. After roughly six months of planning and coordinating, the time is here.

Up to this point, all of the soldiers competing in this event proved to be the best qualified to represent their respective units within I Corps. Every unit under I Corps conducted their own BWC to determine whom to send to this competition.

The categories the soldiers are divided into are based on their rank. The competition will name the top first sergeant, officer, warrant officer, noncommissioned officer and lower enlisted soldiers.
Today they conducted TA-50 layouts, received the in brief and participated in a board to test their military knowledge. The winners will be announced on the fourth day of the competition.
“The planning and coordination for the best warrior competition took roughly six months to complete,” said Master Sgt. Jacob Smith, the event’s noncommissioned officer in charge. Finally, the time is here.
