Brig. Gen. Joseph E. Hilbert

Brig. Gen. Joseph E. Hilbert is the commanding general for the 7th Army Training Command, Grafenwoehr, Germany. He took command on June 2, 2021. Brig. Gen. Hilbert most recently served as the Deputy Commander for Maneuver for the 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.

Commissioned into the Field Artillery in 1993, Brig. Gen. Hilbert has served in a wide variety of Command and Staff positions throughout the United States and Europe, including Commander of Operations Group at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center at Hohenfels, Germany; Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Commander of the 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery (HIMARS) at Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA; Chief of Current Operations at the XVIII Airborne Corps; and Chief of Operational Fires at the  Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).

He holds a Masters in Security Studies from the Army War College and is an Olmsted Scholar having earned a Masters in European Studies (Magister Atrium Europastudien) from the Universität Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany.

His awards and decorations include, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Meritorious Service Medal.
