President Obama presented the Medal of Honor, Feb. 29, 2016, to Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Edward C. Byers Jr., a member of an east coast-based SEAL Team, for his actions while serving as part of a team that rescued a U.S. civilian hostage in Afghanistan in 2012.
