PCU JFK (CVN 79) Conducts PT109 Wreath Laying Ceremony 2024
PCU John F. Kennedy (CVN 79)
Aug. 2, 2024 | 0:46
240802-N-UP745-4001 ARLINGTON, Va. (Aug. 2, 2024) Sailors assigned to the Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) conduct a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery to honor the Sailors of PT-109. The event commemorates the anniversary of the PT-109 crash, highlighting the legacy of then-Lt. John F. Kennedy and his crew. Cryptological Technician Seaman Apprentice Logan Ganong, from Temecula, Calif., lays a wreath at the gravesite of Lt. Cmdr. William Liebenow, who served alongside Kennedy on PT-109. Additional tributes include wreaths at the gravesites of Chief Engineman Gerard Emil Zinser and President John F. Kennedy, accompanied by a bagpipe tribute performed by Pipe Major Christopher Pearcy, from Virginia Beach. The ceremony reflects the continued connection between the crew of PCU John F. Kennedy and the storied history of the ship’s namesake. (U.S. Navy video by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Theoplis Stewart II/Released)
