M240 Qualifications Fort Chaffee
119th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
May 13, 2023 | 0:41
FORT CHAFFEE, Ark.— Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team qualify on their M240 weapon systems on May 13, 2023.
The M240 is known for its reliability, durability, and versatility. They can be employed in various roles within infantry operations. It can be used as a crew-served weapon and mounted on vehicles or aircraft. Its versatility allows it to provide direct fire support, defend positions, or engage targets from a stationary or mobile platform.
The M240 has an effective range of approximately 800 meters but can engage targets further away with indirect fire. Its sustained rate of fire allows for continuous suppressive fire, which is crucial in covering fire during assaults or defensive operations.
“I want them to be comfortable with their weapons systems,” said Command Sergeant Major Tad Washington. “I want them to feel comfortable knowing they did everything here…to accomplish the mission.”
