A crane-operated claw onboard a derrick boat places loose stone from a barge to construct a stone breakwater in Buffalo, N.Y., Oct. 13-16, 2023. The breakwater will contain sediment dredged from the Buffalo River, to form the base of a new wetland ecosystem in the abandoned Shipping Slip 3 on the city’s Outer Harbor.
