Diving on the CSS Georgia
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District
March 6, 2015 | 1:21
Archaeologists from Panamerican Consultants, Inc. are recovering and cataloging artifacts from the CSS Georgia, a sunken Civil War ironclad.
Significant artifacts that have been identified include pieces of a sliding gun carriage, ceramic pottery, nautical tackle and a plethora of fasteners and smaller items.
The five-month recovery effort is just one phase of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project, which officially kicked off Jan. 29.
For the full story on this particular dive, March 4, visit http://ow.ly/Ki9zg, or visit http://ow.ly/Kiclf for a more comprehensive overview.
