U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District
March 6, 2015 | 1:21
Archaeologists from Panamerican Consultants, Inc. are recovering and cataloging artifacts from the CSS Georgia, a sunken Civil War ironclad.

Significant artifacts that have been identified include pieces of a sliding gun carriage, ceramic pottery, nautical tackle and a plethora of fasteners and smaller items.

The five-month recovery effort is just one phase of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project, which officially kicked off Jan. 29.
