Work completed at Lock and Dam 9 in preparation for miter gates
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District
Feb. 19, 2025 | 1:19
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is conducting work on the anchorages at Lock and Dam 9, located on the Mississippi River near Eastman, Wisconsin.
The project involves the district’s maintenance and repair crew making concrete repairs and installing newly fabricated anchorages. Each lock has a set of upstream and downstream miter gates which act as doors to the lock chamber. The anchorages act as door hinges for the miter gates. This work is in preparation for the delivery and installation of new miter gates in the summer of 2026. These new miter gates will be replacing the original gates installed in the 1940s.
Work began the first week of December 2024 and is anticipated to be complete by the end of February 2025 and cost around $1.5 million.
