Djibouti, U.S., U.N. assist people of Djibouti recover from COVID-19 pandemic economic impacts
Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa
Dec. 31, 2021 | 2:00
Sitani Abdoulkader, Rising Djibouti entrepreneur, shares her experience learning business and craft skills through a whole of government initiative in Djibouti City, Djibouti, Dec. 31, 2021. The governments of Djibouti and the United States partner with the United Nations Development Program to develop sustainable solutions that assist the people of Djibouti in recovery from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The partnership provides young Djiboutian women with the training, equipment, and materials to start marketing pottery. Djiboutian-made pottery is a promising growth sector identified by the Djibouti Study and Research Center and Ministry of Economy and Finance. Five young women completed intensive six-month training to learn techniques for making pottery and entrepreneurial skills to sell their handcrafted goods at exhibitions across the country and using the Internet.
