Coast Guard Training Center Cape May Celebrates 75 Years of Recruit Training
U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters
June 8, 2023 | 52:17
Cape May, New Jersey -- Coast Guard Training Center Cape May Celebrates 75 Years of Recruit Training today during an afternoon ceremony in Cape May, New Jersey.
Training Center Cape May (TCCM) is the birthplace of the Coast Guard's enlisted corps, where more than 80 percent of the service's workforce begin their career. Cape May County is considered the "Coast Guard's Hometown" as it provides the Coast Guard with its most important resource - its people.
TCCM has the potential to graduate up to 4,200 new recruits annually. Approximately 43 weeks per year, TCCM starts a new company within its eight (8) week training program. The training center may also have up to 800 recruits on base at any given time. The training center recently made Coast Guard history, graduating its inaugural 10-week beta company, November-203. The base has approximately 450 acres with 258 buildings attached. In addition to training, the base provides support for 14 tenant commands, which includes operational and support units.
