Space Systems Command (SSC) welcomes Lt. Gen. Philip Garrant as the U.S. Space Force field command’s new Commander during a Change of Command ceremony officiated by Chief of Space Operations U.S. Space Force Gen. Chance Saltzman at SSC headquarters on Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, California, Feb. 1, 2024. Garrant assumes responsibility for leading a global workforce of more than 15,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel, and $15.6 billion annual space acquisition budget. Saltzman, Garrant, SSC personnel, and distinguished guests also bid farewell to SSC's first commander, Gen. Michael Guetlein who recently assumed the role of Vice Chief of Space Operations.
