Japanese guests and host families attend a pool party at the 25 meter pool aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan as part of a four day cultural exchange and community relations event in response to the March 11, 2011 tsunami, earthquake and nuclear incident that devastated the Tohoku Region of Japan and displaced thousands of families. Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler coordinated and supported a four day cultural exchange and community relations event for school aged children of the region from 6 to 9 August 2011 on Okinawa in order to enhance the existing spirit of mutual trust and partnership between the United States and Japan. Twenty Five students and five adults from Oshima Island Elementary and Middle School were hosted by Marine Corps Bases, Japan volunteer families which afforded the students an opportunity to experience a little of American culture.
