Capt. Jonathon Nagel is the operations officer for the 336th Military Police Battalion, headquartered in Pittsburgh. He is also a part-time blacksmith who has been forging metal for the past five years, making blades and other steelwork. In May 2018, Nagel was featured on a Memorial Day special episode of "Forged in Fire," in which he competed against other military service members who are also blacksmiths to make a combat knife and a naval cutlass. In this video, Nagel talks about his philosophy of blacksmithing and how it relates to his military service in the U.S. Army Reserve. (U.S. Army Reserve video by Master Sgt. Michel Sauret)
