Laps for Lymphoma
436th Airlift Wing
Sept. 21, 2017 | 1:33
500 days of chemotherapy…that’s how many days one of Team Dover’s own 2nd graders, Von Kleiv, has been fighting lymphoma. This week Dover AFB and Major George S. Welch Elementary School came together to show their support for the Kleiv family and help “Voninja” kick lymphoma’s butt!
#ChildhoodCancerAwareness #LymphomaAwareness #SurviveandThrive #ICYMI #TeamDover
JASON PAYNE: TODAY WAS OUR LAPS FOR LYMPHOMA EVENT FOR VON KLEIV WHO IS A SECOND GRADE STUDENT HERE AT WELCH ELEMENTARY WHO CURRENTLY IS BATTLING LYMPHOMA. SO WE JUST HAD A SCHOOL WIDE FUNDRAISER TO TRY TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE SAINT BALDRICK’S FOUNDATION WHICH DOES RESEARCH FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER.
LT COL DAIN KLEIV: 500 DAYS OF TREATMENT HAS BEEN DRAINING BUT WATCHING HIM AND HIS RESILENCY GETTING THROUGH THAT HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. HE’S GOT SOME REALLY ROUGH DAYS, HE’S HAD SOME REALLY ROUGH WEEKS BUT HIS ABILITY TO BOUNCE BACK, THE SUPPORT WE GET NOT JUST FROM OUR FAMILY BUT FROM WELCH AND THE DOVER COMMUNITY HELPS HIM AND US GET THROUGH THIS WHOLE THING, THE 500 DAYS OF TREATMENT HE HAS GONE THROUGH.
GINA KLEIV: IT IS JUST PURE PRIDE. HE HAS OVERCOME SO MANY OBSTACLES. LIKE A YEAR AGO, HE COULD BARELY MAKE IT AROUND THE TRACK AND TODAY HE WAS SPRINTING TO THE FINISH LINE. YOU KNOW, AND THEN OUT THERE DOING HIS KARATE, BREAKING HIS FIRST BOARDS. HE HAS REACHED EVERY SINGLE GOAL HE HAS SET FOR HIMSELF SO HIS GOAL IS TO KICK LYMPHOMA’S BUTT AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER FOR HIS GOAL.
LT COL DAIN KLEIV: HE LIKES NINJAS AND HE MADE THE COMMENT I’M GOING TO KICK LYMPHOMA’S BUTT AND IT TURNED INTO VONINJA IS GONNA BE KICKING LYMPHOMA’S BUTT. AND HE’S DOING THAT. HE SET THAT GOAL FOR HIMSELF AND HE’S KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK.
