Arizona National Guard Public Affairs
Nov. 21, 2021 | 2:32
A flight crew and medic with the Arizona Army National Guard teamed up with Pinal County Search and Rescue Posse to rescue an injured hiker, stranded in the Superstition Mountains near Gold Canyon, Arizona, November 21, 2021.
The helicopter crew from Detachment 2, C Co 2-149th Aviation Regiment based at Papago Park Military Reservation in Phoenix, brought hoist, litter and medical capabilities to the scene, and made a complex two wheel landing at the scene of a 5,000 foot sloping ridge line. The medic, SSG Javier Carrillo, exited the aircraft to assess the stranded hiker for any injuries. It was determined the hiker was ambulatory and able to walk to the aircraft. The hiker and the Pinal County Search and Rescue team were then transported off the mountain to the exchange point near the Peralta Trailhead.
The aircrew consisted of: Pilot-in-Command: CW3 James Reed, Pilot: CW2 Corey McCarthy, Crew Chief: SSG Karl Evans, Crew Chief: SPC Torin Bryant, Flight Medic: SSG Javier Carrillo
