Oregon National Guard Breaks Ground on New Hillsboro Readiness Center
Oregon National Guard Public Affairs Office
Aug. 21, 2025 | 3:24
Oregon National Guard senior leaders, elected officials, and community members gather for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Hillsboro Readiness Center at 3600 NE Veterans Drive. The ceremony marks a significant milestone in the Oregon National Guard's nearly century-long partnership with the Hillsboro community, with a presence dating back to at least 1927.
Brigadier General Alan R. Gronewold, The Adjutant General of Oregon, leads the ceremony alongside Hillsboro Mayor Beach Pace and other local dignitaries to celebrate construction of the modern 45,000 square-foot facility. The new readiness center, located just one mile east of the original armory built in 1954, will serve as home to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment and Charlie Battery, 2nd Battalion, 218th Field Artillery Regiment.
The facility will include a drill floor, unit administrative areas and offices, storage, classroom space, and a kitchen, extending the National Guard's capabilities in Hillsboro for the next 50 years. The project also includes a 20,000 square-foot storage facility for M777 howitzers with pass-through bay doors, allowing field artillery soldiers to safely store and protect their equipment.
The new readiness center will replace the historic Hillsboro armory, which served not only as a military facility but as a vital community hub, hosting events from roller derbies to quinceañeras. Oregon National Guard soldiers have been integral to the Hillsboro community, contributing to park beautification projects and providing essential support to the annual Hillsboro Air Show.
This B-roll package includes ceremonial groundbreaking activities, remarks from military and civilian leadership, architectural renderings of the new facility, and footage highlighting the strong community partnership that has flourished between the Orego
